Episode 408 – The Role of the Holy Spirit in Tribulation
Thursday Feb 29, 2024
Thursday Feb 29, 2024
In today’s episode, we’re going to look at the role of the Holy Spirit in tribulation. In this series, we’ve shown the context that St. Paul was writing this first epistle of Thessalonians. St. Paul was writing to a brand new church full of new Christians in Thessalonica, who were experiencing persecution, affliction, and tribulation!
Section 675 of the CCC states that “Before Christ’s second coming the Church must pass through a final trial (Great Tribulation) that will shake the faith of many believers.”
How did the new Christians in Thessalonica handle tribulation? How did they stand strong in the midst of persecution? What was it that got them through? How can we apply it to the tribulation that stands ahead of the Church today? All of these questions and more will be answered in today’s episode.

Episode 407 – The Power of the Word of God (in Thessalonica)
Thursday Feb 22, 2024
Thursday Feb 22, 2024
For the past couple episodes, we’ve been studying the seven verses in Thessalonians where tribulation and affliction are to be expected as Christians. The question then arises – how can I develop a faith strong enough to survive such tribulation? In today’s episode, we are looking at the power of the Word of God in Thessalonica and in our daily lives. Steve will go through ways in which we can apply it to our daily lives to build up our faith amid opposition. The word of God is at work in all of us, living and active. Read, hear, and be transformed by it.

Episode 406 | Tribulation in the New Testament | Luke21- Catholic Biblical Prophecy
Thursday Feb 15, 2024
Thursday Feb 15, 2024
In the last episode, your host Steve Wood, went through the topic of the Great Tribulation in the books of First and Second Thessalonians. He showed the importance of looking at the entire context of a verse – rather than studying just a particular verse by itself. Steve then explored the seven verses in Thessalonians that talked about tribulation as a life situation – a context that St. Paul was writing to and how this would illuminate the teaching of tribulation in the epistle. In today’s episode, Steve continues the study of tribulation by now looking at the entire New Testament. What did St. Paul say to the other churches about tribulation? What did Jesus say about tribulation? How does St. John refer to tribulation in Revelation? Learn the answers to these questions and much more on today’s episode.

Episode 405 | Tribulation in Thessalonians | Luke21 - Catholic Biblical Prophecy
Thursday Feb 08, 2024
Thursday Feb 08, 2024
There’s a little saying that goes, “a text without a context, is just a pretext.” What does this have to do with studying biblical prophecy? In today’s episode, your host Steve Wood will explain the importance of studying a particular verse in the Bible while also looking at it’s entire context. You take away the context – you lose the meaning. While continuing our study of St. Paul’s Epistle to the Thessalonians, Steve will investigate the concept of the Great Tribulation while studying Thessalonians 4:17 in it’s entire context. One of the biggest debates in the study of Thessalonians and biblical prophecy is the question – Will Christians go through what is called the Great Tribulation, or will they somehow be taken off the scene (through the Rapture) and not go through the Great Tribulation? You will learn the answer in today’s episode.

If we are being honest, the world seems to be turning the church upside down more than the church is turning the world upside down, regardless of which church you attend. We’re not really winning the cultural wars or the war for the hearts, minds and souls of men, women, and particularly young people. We must ask ourselves – is something missing in how we present, believe, and live the Gospel? Could we start turning the world upside down, thereby making it upright again? This is the kingdom reality. This is why we study prophecy. It’s not to get a crystal ball timeline of what’s going to happen – instead, this is the critical stuff. This is the power of the Gospel to change a pagan world into a Christian world. It turns the world right side up again by proclaiming the Gospel message that Jesus Christ is King of the world.
One of the most critical questions regarding biblical prophecy is this – when is the kingdom reign of Jesus? – When does it begin? When is it? The answer can get more complicated but to keep it simple, there’s two answers – either future or present. In other words, is the kingdom reign of Jesus a future reality or a present reality?
Over the course of our studies we are going to be looking at how to answer that through several different Scriptures, particularly as we go through the book of Revelation. But for today, one way to answer that question is to dig in to what the word “gospel” means. Today, we will continue to study 1 Thessalonians by looking into the prophetic gospel of the kingdom and its importance to setting the world upright again.

Thessalonians is at the center of much debate between Christians regarding the basic framework of biblical prophecy. This debate isn’t just between Protestants and Catholics as much as it is between a huge group that has adopted dispensationalism (a fairly recent understanding of biblical prophecy, less than 200 years old) and a large number of Protestants, Orthodox Christians, and Catholics who take a more historic approach to these two epistles.
In today’s episode, your host Steve Wood takes a second look at the topics of dispensationalism and exegesis by going through a brief summary of First and Second Thessalonians. Steve will walk you through these two radically different viewpoints of Thessalonians and teach you how to interpret them for yourself.

In this episode, your host Steve Wood launches into the study of biblical prophecy starting with 1 Thessalonians 1:1-4. You will learn the importance of these four verses and why they are key for understanding the big picture of Biblical prophecy. Steve then dives into explaining the two different ways one can interpret the Scriptures. Spoiler alert – you’ll learn what eisegesis (reading one’s thoughts into scripture) and exegesis (forming one’s thoughts by reading meaning out of scripture) are, how they differ, and why it matters. Steve will then explain how these theories can help us interpret popular theories such as the Rapture.

Episode 401 | Introduction to Thessalonians | Luke21 - Catholic Biblical Prophecy
Thursday Jan 11, 2024
Thursday Jan 11, 2024
In this episode, Steve Wood begins a new series studying St. Paul’s Epistles to the Thessalonians. Page by page, Steve predicts you’ll learn more about biblical prophecy from these two short epistles (Thessalonians being only eight chapters), than any other resource! To explain this, Steve has listed ten things you will learn about biblical prophecy just by studying First and Second Thessalonians. You’ll then learn the top three tools you’ll need to study biblical prophecy.

Bible translations Steve recommends:
- RSV-CE – Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition
- ESV – English Standard Version, if you don’t want to use a Catholic bible
It can be hard to find RSV-CE first edition. Here is a good option from TAN Books.
Also recommended is a dry bible highlighter. Steve has used these gel Hi-Gliders for years. They have a crayon-like consistency and don’t bleed through like ink does.
